Pet of the Week for February 14, 2026
At 16 months old, Callie [1] has been on quite a journey with FAAS! She is still discovering how big her world is. She is a brindle shepherd mix (we suspect a little Catahoula is in there, too) who doesn’t just walk—she wiggles, always looking to give you a big hug. Whether she’s meeting a new person or a new dog, her first instinct is a wagging tail and a happy, open-mouthed grin. She’s looking for a person who views her energy as an enthusiastic companion rather than a chore.
[2]During her recent spa day, Callie showed just how quickly she can learn when someone takes the time to lead. She is incredibly food-motivated and treats every training session like a game she is determined to win. While she’s still a puppy at heart—sometimes jumping up to say hello or giving her leash a playful tug when she’s excited—she responds immediately to a calm “Off” or a steady hand. On walks, she is curious but manageable. She might fixate on a passing dog because she’s dying to play, but she’s easily redirected back to her path forward.
Callie is looking for an active home with an experienced owner who enjoys the process of training. She loves the company of other energetic dogs and would do well with older children who can keep up with her pace. Her fosters were sad to bring her back, noting that she is a dog who truly wants to be part of the family rhythm. She just needs a consistent schedule and a bit of praise to keep her heading in the right direction.
Meet Callie at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way, or give us a call at 510-337-8565 for more information.
