Pickleball Palooza: Grand Opening Celebrations at The HUB

Alameda pickleballers rejoice! The HUB, a completely renovated, cutting-edge fitness and pickleball facility has officially opened its doors at 800 West Tower Avenue on Alameda Point. Formerly home to Bladium sports and fitness club, this historic 110,000-square-foot airplane hangar once used by the US Navy has been transformed into a haven for both fitness enthusiasts and pickleball aficionados.

The facility, which is home to the Major League Pickleball (MLP) Bay Area Breakers,  has 15 professional-grade pickleball courts—eight indoor and seven outdoor—along with a multi-level gym, luxury locker rooms, and a pro shop featuring everything from paddles, balls, shoes, and hats to snacks, refreshments, and apparel. The luxury locker rooms offer dry sauna and steam rooms, private showers, and lounge areas with televisions.

“We are excited to make The HUB-Alameda our home,” says Geoffrey Nguyen, co-owner and general manager of the Bay Area Breakers. He notes that the pickleball courts all feature PPA-approved Acrytech court surfaces, permanently mounted nets, and state of the art LED lighting, “plus a Championship stadium court for us to host exhibition matches with other MLP teams.”

Ngyuen called The HUB-Alameda “one of the best facilities in the world.” The indoor climate-controlled courts ensure year-round play, and the outdoor courts allow players to enjoy the fresh air while still being shielded from the wind.

The large-scale, multi-level gym area is equipped with free weights, cutting-edge cardio machines, strength training equipment, and boxing. The HUB-Alameda also offers daily fitness classes—free to members—from GroupX to GRIT, spin, yoga, HIIT, and more—free to members. The diverse range of workouts are taught by certified trainers.
