Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) is now accepting applications for three seats on the Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.

The committee comprises 11 community members, including parent/guardians and district employees. It will meet four to six times over the next year to review the district’s compliance with the terms of Measures B1 and A in 2024-25.
- Measure B1 (passed in 2016) raises about $12 million per year for core programs, including AP classes, neighborhood schools, small class sizes in grades K-3, athletics, enrichment, and technology.
- Measure A (passed in 2020) raises about $10 million per year solely for retaining and attracting high-quality employees by raising salaries.
Measure E—which combines and replaces Measures B1 and A—went into effect on July 1, 2025. The oversight committee will begin reviewing that measure’s first year of revenue and expenditures in 2026-27.
Each year, the committee’s work culminates in a staff Annual Report, as well as a shorter committee report, both of which are presented to the Board of Education.
Please visit AUSD’s Parcel Tax Program Oversight Committee webpage to learn more and download an application or call the district office at 510-337-7000 to get one.
Completed applications must be received in the district office no later than 5 p.m. on October 17, 2025. The Board of Education will vote on the recommended applicants at its October 28, 2025 public meeting.
AUSD’s Citizen Bond Oversight Committee, which reviews the district’s bond program and also annually produces a report, also will have openings starting later this fall. We will be sure to publicize that opportunity as well.
In other Board news, Member Meleah Hall submitted her resignation on September 23, and the Alameda County Office of Education accepted it, as stipulated in our Board Bylaw 9222. Within the next few weeks, we will release more information about the steps our Board of Education will take to fill her vacated seat. In the meantime, we thank her for her service and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
Finally, we are aware that there are a number of rumors circulating about Alameda Little League’s ability to use AUSD fields this year, which has been impacted by construction at Wood Middle School. We encourage community members to read the AUSD statement released on September 19. As a district, AUSD supports the youth of this town and youth sports, and continues to work towards a productive and professional relationship with the League, one based on mutual respect and clear communication.
