Pet of the Week for June 1, 2024
Nelly has been up for adoption at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) for more than a year. That’s an awfully long time to be at a shelter, even one with wonderful staff who do everything they can for the animals in their care. Sweet Nelly is one of the longest-term residents there, and we’re hoping that June may be her lucky month.

So let’s talk about Nelly.
Nelly is sweet, silly, and smart—and she’s got beautiful velveteen looks to boot. She’s a super good girl who is a bit nervous about meeting new people. She needs a little time and patience to feel safe with new friends, but once you’re in her cool kids’ club, she will reward and entertain you endlessly with slobbery kisses and spurts of joy.
Nelly gets along well with other dogs after a proper introduction. She needs a kid-free, low-traffic home where she can settle in and leave her nervous-Nellyness behind.

Here’s some more info on our Pet of the Week, Nelly. She is:
- 3 years old.
- 76 pounds of goodness.
- Very affectionate once she bonds with you.
- A lover of playing tug of war and fetch.
- Capable of hilarious zoomies.
- Able to to “leave it” on command.
- Friendly with other dogs.
- Housebroken.
- Food-motivated and easy to train.
- Easy to handle.
- Probably better off in a home with no kids.
Nelly’s recent foster mom wrote this to her future adopters:
“If you give her a chance, she will become your adventure buddy, your cuddle buddy, and your genuine and loyal friend for life.”
One of Nelly’s fans has sponsored her, so she will be free to adopt!
