Neptune Market Opens in Former Bonfare Market Location

A new store is now operating in the space that once housed Bonfare Market at 650 Central Avenue in the Neptune Plaza Shopping Center. Neptune Market recently opened its doors and is selling liquor, cigarettes, groceries and soft drinks. Jagdeep Singh, along with two business partners, is the new owner.

Singh, who formerly ran a trucking business, commutes two hours every day from Yuba City to Alameda. He and his son Prabh run the store, which opened on October 11. Bonfare Market closed due to a drastic rent increase, from $10,000 to $16,000 per month. The new owners confirmed that their rent is just under $16,000 a month.

Singh and his son are talking to customers who come into Neptune Market and asking them what they would like to see the store carry. According to the younger Singh, they are planning to add a fresh vegetable and produce section and are considering fried chicken, hot pizza, and nachos.
