Meyers House and Garden Tours
Saturday, November 22
Dive into Alameda history at Meyers House and Garden, 2021 Alameda Avenue, on Saturday, November 22, between 1 and 4 p.m. This special property is open to the public for tours on the fourth Saturday of each month.
The Meyers House was built in 1897, and it is a beautiful example of the Colonial Revival style of architecture that was popular at the time. The house and gardens spread over three city lots, and a carriage house stands there to this day. Along the tour, check out beautiful antiques, furniture, and household items, many of which belonged to the home’s original owners, the Meyers.
Read about the history of the Meyers House and Garden online, and arrive ready to learn even more during the tour. Admission is $5 (cash only), and no RSVP is necessary. Guests may take the tour at their own pace and chat with docents around the property. Final entry is at 3 p.m. Street parking is available around the property. Please note that guests will need to navigate stairs in order to participate in the tour.
Native American Heritage Month at the Library
Saturday, November 22 and Monday, November 24
November is Native American Heritage Month, and the Alameda Free Library has been hosting events throughout the month to mark the occasion. You still have three chances to participate:
- Ohlone Star Stories | Saturday, November 22, 11 a.m.
Head over to the Leydecker Recreation Center, 3221 Mecartney Road, to listen to Ohlone stories about the stars and learn a song in Chochenyo with mak-‘amham/Cafe Ohlone. Guests are welcome to enjoy acorn brownies and tea while supplies last. - Alicia Retes, Storytelling Artisan | Saturday, November 22, 2 p.m.
Join Storytelling Artisan Alicia Retes at the West End Library, 788 Santa Clara Avenue, for stories and songs about companion plants. Attendees will learn about the well-known Three Sisters, as well as other native plants and their cultural and spiritual significance. - An Afternoon with Cafe Ohlone | Monday, November 24, 4 p.m. mak-‘amham/Cafe Ohlone is hosting another special event in the Children’s Program Room at the Main Library, 1550 Oak Street. Learn about the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, play the Ohlone Staves Game, and grab an acorn brownie and a free book, while supplies last.
