Alameda Police Start the Year with 24 Impaired Driving Arrests

Alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of deadly and serious-injury crashes on our roadways, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety—and Alameda Police Department (APD) officers are ready to face the challenge.

In January, APD officers made 24 impaired driving arrests, according to a department report on Facebook. Six of those arrests stemmed from traffic collisions. The remaining 18 arrests were the result of proactive enforcement after officers observed unsafe roadway behaviors. These behaviors included driving into oncoming traffic, excessive speed, illegal roadway maneuvers, and failure to obey posted traffic signs.

If you’re thinking about drinking and driving in Alameda, think again. APD is stepping up impaired-driving arrests.

“It is never okay to operate a vehicle while impaired,” APD stated. “We are asking every driver to think before getting behind the wheel.”

APD will continue directed enforcement efforts aimed at addressing crime before it happens. These efforts will focus on a range of issues, including impaired driving, unsafe roadway behavior, auto theft, mail theft, and more.

In response to an increased number of impaired drivers observed on our roadways, Alameda Police Department (APD) conducted a directed traffic enforcement operation on Thursday night, February 5.

“We are happy to report that no impaired drivers were contacted during this operation,” APD stated in a second report on Facebook. However, officers did contact 64 drivers for various unsafe roadway behaviors, potentially preventing collisions before they could occur.

“Officers are out every day working to keep our community safe,” APD warned. “We will continue to remind those who jeopardize the safety of others that Alameda is a bad place to make bad decisions.”
