Alameda Police Department (APD) officers responded to a threat of a “suspicious device” that led to a shelter-in-place at Alameda High School on Monday, February 2, after school administrators reported receiving a threatening phone call claiming that a suspicious device was in a campus parking lot.

The call came in at approximately 10 a.m. and police responded immediately, according to an APD report on Facebook. The call appeared to be a recorded message, police said.
APD officers “responded immediately and began a thorough investigation, including a search of the campus to assess the credibility of the call,” the APD report stated. “As a precaution, students and staff were directed to shelter in place while officers conducted their investigation.”
To further ensure campus safety, APD requested assistance from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report.
After a thorough investigation, officers determined there was no credible threat. School administrators lifted the shelter-in-place directive at approximately noon, according to the report.
“The safety of students and staff remains our highest priority, and all threats of this nature are taken extremely seriously,” APD stated. “We are aware that similar messages were reported at schools across the nation today and last week.”
The case has been referred to APD’s Investigations Unit for follow-up.
