‘Love Over Hate’: Community Gathers to Protest ICE in Solidarity With Minnesota

On Friday, January 30, a crowd of over 100 gathered in front of Alameda City Hall around sunset to protest ICE and their recent actions in Minnesota, including the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

The evening held a somber tone, with impassioned signs reading statements like, “Hate Will Not Make Us Great,” “Stop ICE,” and “No Kings in the USA.” Children were present, making and holding their own signs that read “Love Over Hate” and “Immigrants Make America Great!” Speakers emphasized the importance of community during this time and the need to come together to combat racism, among other topics.

This local demonstration coincided with a one-day “National Shutdown” that called for people to stop working, attending school, and spending money to protest ICE.
