During these stressful times when costs are going up and benefits seem to be in question, I want to assure people that Alameda Meals on Wheels is ready and able to deliver meals to Alameda residents who aren’t able to cook their own meals, regardless of age or income. Recipients pay for their meals on a sliding fee scale based on their ability to pay.

We deliver hot meals daily prepared by the Bay View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and recipients can specify if they want meals that are heart-healthy, diabetic-friendly, vegetarian, renal, soft, or pureed. Alternatively, recipients can now opt to receive some or all of their meals frozen. Frozen heart-healthy and diabetic friendly meals are prepared by Nutrition Solutions, a local caterer, which sources most of its ingredients fresh locally, including meat, fish, and produce. Frozen meals have included dishes like chicken adobo, Mongolian meatballs, and chicken and sausage gumbo.
We know that there are some in the Alameda community who don’t know about us but may be in need of our service. If you know someone, a relative, neighbor, or friend who might benefit from a healthy meal delivered to their door, please talk to them about us or give us a call and we will reach out to them.
All of our meals are delivered by volunteers, so let us know if you want to join the team! Besides bringing a meal, our volunteers bring a smile and a bit of cheer to brighten up the day of so many seniors who may not see or talk to anyone else during the day.
Our Friendly Visitor program is still going strong as well. In this program, seniors are matched with volunteers for weekly visits to provide companionship and friendship to many who would otherwise be very isolated.
Please check out our Alameda Meals on Wheels website to learn more or to make a donation. We do not accept any government funding, so we rely on the generosity of the Alameda community to cover the costs for those who are not able to pay for themselves. As a fundraiser, we will hold our First Annual Alameda Meals on Wheels Pasta Bingo Night on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Alameda. Save the date and stay tuned for more information as the time gets closer.
