Whisk Takes Mayor’s Trophy, Again!

July 4th Parade Awards presented at Jean Sweeney Park

To celebrate another colorful, joyful, and fun-filled 4th of July Parade, the City of Alameda hosted an awards ceremony on Thursday, July 17, at the pavilion in Jean Sweeney Open Space Park.

Dozens of people attended the early evening gathering to find out which entries in Alameda’s cherished parade would be honored this year. Twenty entries were recognized with awards among seven divisions. The 2023 Mayor’s Trophy winner, Whisk Cake Creations, took top honors again this year. The trophy will be on display in the Mayor’s and City Manager’s offices in City Hall.

Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft was unable to attend this year, so awards were distributed by parade organizer Patrick Russi of Alameda Recreation and Park Department and Vice-Mayor Michele Pryor. The event started with recognition of the Parade’s Grand Marshal, Alameda Pride founder Jeramie Andehuseon, who was given a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

The crowd enthusiastically celebrated the winners of each category with applause and cheers. Including the Mayor’s Trophy winner, Whisk Cake Creations, there were several repeat winners from previous years among this year’s awardees, including the Cargo Bike Brigade in the Green Power Division—which has won their division every year since we started covering the Awards in 2022—and took home the Mayor’s Trophy in both 2022 and 2024; Diablo Roofing, which has taken first place in the Live Music Division two years running; and the Alameda Vipers, which topped the Movement division for another year.
