Huggy the Love Bug

Pet of the Week for February 7, 2026

Huggy is the talk of the FAAS town! When she first arrived, she was terrified of the air around her. You can still see remnants of that today—as she works to build her confidence, she’s still a little shaky on her feet. But if you offer Huggy a few minutes to adjust, she’s quick to settle. She’s a lapdog just waiting for her perfect human to come around.

Sweet Huggy has a perfect temperament and a pittie smile that will light up your whole day. Her FAAS profile states that her initial hesitation with strangers has been replaced by a “once we’re friends, we’re friends for life” philosophy. She is highly motivated by affection and thrives on consistent positive reinforcement.

This video showcases her progress since she came to the shelter:

Huggy is great with other dogs, though she does get excited when being introduced. She requires a little bit of patience while she becomes that perfect dog you’re looking for. She’s still unlearning some quirky past habits, like her belief that the bathtub makes a fine restroom!

Ultimately, she is eager to please. She has spent time in a foster home with another pup, who has really helped her personality shine. With the right human and right space to thrive, she is going to be a perfect family member.

Please stop by and meet Huggy during open hours at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way, or call 510-337-8565 for more information.
