Looking at the changing real estate landscape as fall approaches

It’s the end of Summer. School is back in session, vacations are over, and you can feel the change in the light as the days get shorter. I’m anticipating the annual change in the real estate market as well.

Summer sales? Cities like Alameda and Berkeley have done well this summer. However, it has been a slower-than-usual summer for sales in some cities and for certain types of homes. Condos and townhouses have been challenging to sell, and I’ve seen plenty of price drops. The number of days on the market before an offer has also increased. Homes that aren’t in move-in-ready condition have lingered. Some sellers removed their properties from the market this summer when they didn’t receive the price they had hoped for. Interest rate drop? There was a buzz last week about a possible interest rate drop in mid-September. Mortgage rates have already begun to improve due to this news. What that means for buyers: Lower interest rates mean lower monthly payments. For sellers, lower rates will attract more buyers back to the market, resulting in increased demand.

Buying and selling. Regardless of the time of year, buyers will buy and homes will sell. You simply need to understand the ebb and flow of the real estate market and adjust the price accordingly.
