All Around Alameda – Let’s Go!

Catch a show, sing a song, grab a bite, and move your body

The rain is gone and we have some beautiful, sunny winter days on the schedule this week. Let’s temporarily crawl out from our piles of blankets to enjoy what our Island has to offer. Beginning on Friday, January 23, Altarena Playhouse presents their zany new one-person play, Fully Committed, onstage through February 22. On Saturday, January 24, join Rhythmix Cultural Works for a special new show, Wild Women of the Sixties, a nostalgic night full of girl power. The same evening, the Alameda Elks Lodge welcomes the community to their annual Crab Feed featuring Dungeness crab. Then get moving on Sunday, January 25, with Bike East Bay’s popular Adult & Teen Learn-to-Ride Class, or head over to shoot some hoops at the Alameda Point Gymnasium with Alameda Recreation and Park Department’s Open Gym.

Altarena Playhouse Presents Fully Committed

Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through February 22

Support local theater and spend a night on the town with Altarena Playhouse’s latest production, Fully Committed. See the show at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, or 2 p.m. on Sundays, through February 22.

“This devastatingly funny one act follows a day in the life of Sam Peliczowski, an out-of-work actor who works the red-hot reservation line at Manhattan’s number one restaurant,” states the description. “Sam endures coercion, threats, bribes, and histrionics from desperate callers who will stop at nothing to land a prime reservation, or the right table.” To top off all the fun, Fully Committed is performed entirely by a single actor who plays forty diverse characters.

The show runs about 90 minutes. Guests who require mobility accommodations are encouraged to reach out to the theater in advance. The Sunday, February 8 show at 2 p.m. will offer a live audio description and pre-show Haptic Access Tour provided by Gravity Access. See more on Altarena’s Accessibility web page. Tickets range from $36 to $45 and are available online.

Alameda Elks Lodge Annual Crab Feed

Saturday, January 24

It’s time! Join the Alameda Elks Lodge for their annual Crab Feed on Saturday, January 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. The yearly event is held at the Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Avenue.

The star of the show is Dungeness crab, a West Coast seafood favorite. It’s often described as buttery and sweet, with a tender but meaty texture. In addition to the main event, guests can enjoy salad, pasta, garlic bread, and dessert.

Tickets to this popular event historically sell out, so snag your spot ASAP. Guests are kindly asked to bring their own preferred seafood crackers and picks. Tickets for the Crab Dinner are $80 per person. If someone in your dinner party isn’t wild about seafood, don’t fret—guests have the option to purchase a 1/2 Chicken Dinner for $50 instead.
